ROCKER Bulletproof (33rd St.) Rating: 4.0 EYES Tho make a solid,
full-out rock-a-billy album. Combining his amazing bass playing with
a great band, he proves that he never lost his rock-a-billy touch.
Bulletproof is aptly titled, with its hard hitting melodies,
catchy guitar riffs and clever, but simple lyrics -- its unstoppable.
The albums lead cut, "Evil," mimics the Stray Cats
style with a solo reminiscent of the solo in "Baby, Blue Eyes"
(off the Cats 82 release, Built for Speed). Other than
that, the rest of the songs here have an original sound that retains
those rock-a-billy roots. Also included are kick-ass covers of Carl
Perkins "One More Shot," Johnny Cashs "Johnny,
Frankies Man" and a John Lennon/Paul McCartney song called
"Midnight Shift" that Buddy Holly played. Rocker tops off
the album withe man who helped define rock-a-billy in the 80s
with the Stray Cats has come back full force t a bass solo that lasts
over a minute! Definitely Rockers best solo project so far! |
